This visual features art from the great James Pate of Black Art Palette located in Dayton, OH and a mural created in the 90s titled “In the Village” that features hometown heroes, including the well acclaimed artists and educators such as: Charity adams, Bing Davis and Paul Laurence Dunbar, natives of the Gem City.
Honorable mention to the bands Slave, The Ohio Players and Zapp & Roger Troutman; who all contributed to how Funk Music was birthed.
This video highlights the importance of taking a stand in unity within your community and highlights the importance of locally owned grocery stores like The Gem City Market; which was created out of the need of food security for West Side Dayton residents living in a food desolate area. The store is not just there for community members; but offers each shopper an opportunity of owning a share of the store as well with their continued support. It’s imperative residents focus at least $30/visit to keep the sustainability of the community owned store.
Scenes also features the first Church’s Chicken in the city of Dayton that was located on Broadway Ave. It was opened in 1970 and served the community until late 2016. It came at a pivotal time in Dayton but the stories and service history continues.
Lastly, what’s A FUBU FUNCTION without FUBU?
