Originating as a mindset to overcome harsh realities of exclusivity; it became a deeper mission to create something for likeminded individuals; who may also share the same ideologies, with love for art and community. – Brianna Brown
The AwkweirdSole was birthed in 2018 by Brianna C. Brown. The organization’s main mission has been to create space for talented and unique individuals who seek alignment to come together, to forge a community that celebrates art and diversity.
With a heightened focus on sharing your gifts and talents with the world; it is also deeply encouraged for individuals to embrace these same things that make them different no matter how diverse they may be.
When we consider the science of what we are all composed of; we are truly all not that different.
The AwkweirdSole is a haven for anyone who has ever felt: misunderstood, outcast, or ignored for having skills and talents that many do not understand.
At The AwkweirdSole, we believe in putting your all into your art because it defines who we are. Without creativity, we wouldn’t be complete.
And here, the unordinaray meets the awkweird, and together, we create a vibrant, inclusive community.
Create anything!
Sometimes its easier than we think. The only mission is to just be; when the purpose is to create. There isn’t any rules that limits you to make the art you enjoy. If you have the idea, bring it to life. Stop only once you’re complete.
Be determined!
Everything you do isn’t always made for the larger collective. Sometimes the best change doesn’t reflect in large numbers, but in the mindset of those closets to you. The biggest change always starts small. Do it all for who you love, but always love all of what you do.
Trust the path!
Everyday won’t look, feel or be the same. It is always your duty to stay connected to what makes you, entirely you! Some things we are able to be guided through; but with all things we must develop an ability to trust deeply to see it through.

Born and raised on the West Side of Dayton (Gem City), Brianna Brown has always been involved in a plethora of community science and art programs throughout her life. Her mother’s influence and push for education and fine arts is what’s shaped Brown the most in her career. She gives much praise to the people and environments that cultivated her way of life early on as an artist; most grateful for her early involvement with Wegerzyn Garden, DCDC, Hi-Rise, church plays, school art programs, and even school based academic programs like the State’s Science Fairs that challenged her both academically and creatively to do and be her best. Brianna is a proud graduate of Thurgood Marshall High School; leaving a mark, graduating within the top ten percentage of her class underneath the phenomenoal valedictorian, Alexis Burney (R.I.P.). She then went on to study at Wright State University, majoring in Sociology in the Crime and Justice program making a name for her future self as mentioned in the 2017 Wright State’s Newsletter “Courage for the Future.” Brown has always truly been an artist her entire life and many of those who personally know her can attest to just how enmeshed she lives along the lines of defining both art and life as the same. She uses The AwkweirdSole platform to highlight the need for not only art and creativity in communities but mental education and healthy self-care practices as well.
