Self Reflection

IMG_1481I’m the same
in love with the melodic sounds of Fetty Wap and
Jermaine
Cole
Listening to the endless crescendos
of
Solange K.
Finding myself
at times
Hotline blinging
with Drake
Only mistake, you make
is to not think that I’m awake
I’m perplexed in complexes
Rooting for the same sexes
in Texas
blocking exes
cleaning messes
and
healing these Chakras
I’m
Quite the firefighter
something like
Chaka
But I’m
1017
too clean
like Waka
I’m down with the Brick Squad
I can “Pipe it up”
All-while
keeping track of police fraud
and the killings
seeing how black communities never have any healing
Always
Taking my brothers and sisters
Until the day that I die
the motto’s
“fuck these misters”
with no respect
From the day that we’re born
We gotta protect, everything we stand for
Because if we don’t
we’ll be treated like wet floors
If I was Garvey
I’d team with Marley
Congregate the people
For a project party
For the
brothers and sisters
no invitations to misters
It’s still a disgrace
How they don’t use makeup
now
but still black face my race
The disrespect
I still find place to love my people
Even though some feel
we’ll never be as equal
In a system who fails us
Constantly
Seeing the faces and skin of the people
Who would sell us
Every day
Years continue to pass
And yet
Still no one has paid
For the
endless beatings and rape
For the
killings of today
We are
Shackled and handcuffed to the ways of this society
Constantly
Trying to rise in a world that says
“you’re not climbing me”
Clear in who we are
but always having to show I.D.
Even if we’re in the league
with the ones of I-V (Ivy)
The truth is that we’ll never have the privilege
To express a need of self
We won’t be
Included in that village
Yet we dance
Because
we are all black
all
by popular demand
Yet we beg
For the protection of the black man
Stolen from the lands
of prosperity
Yet we are
Continuously
Marching
for the clarity
But yet I’m still the same
Working for a change
to make a better name
for my people
All while
Bumping Hot Boyz Wayne
Cause we equal
